When it comes to distance learning, there are basically two types of learners, the passive learner and the active learner. The active learner opts for interactive modes of learning such as instant messaging, emails, forums and the rest. A passive learner in a distance learning setting will be more inclined to favor textual materials and not audio or visually oriented media.
To sign up for a distance learning program, you should meet the stipulated requirements of the particular institution offering it. You can't pursue an online masters program if you don't first have a degree. You also need to consider the quality of the materials of a distance program before you sign on.
Shorthand can be argued to be the reason why we have distance learning today. Early in the eighteenth century, a man in Boston believed it was possible to teach the trade by letters sent back and forth over the mail.
